Chengalpattu Rural Development Society (CRDS) is a non-profit developmental organisation working with the indigent people of Kanchipuram Distirict for the past two decades. It is the official organ for Justice, Peace and Development of the the Diocese of Chengalpattu, and it envisions for actualisation of self-respect, self-reliance and self-governance to the communities in distress and need. |

Women Empowerment |
“Equality and liberation are the first and strongest want of human nature” next to the primary needs. Glancing over the pages of the history of Kanchipuram, intervention of CRDS in the lives of the women, who are the hallmark nurturance and sacrifice, brought about commendable transformation. This emancipation is inconceivable in a society where the subordination of women considered being legitimate. |

Youth and Children |
Children are considered to be one’s invaluable treasure. But some use children to earn more treasure. This is where Child labour begins. Since Kanchipuram district has lot of small scale industries, has nearly 14% of the children as child labourers. A Human Rights Study on child labour in Kanchipuram District says that around 15,000 children are employed in the silk industries in Kanchipuram town alone. |

Dalit Empowerment |
Dalits, termed as God’s children (Harijans) by M.K.Gandhi, in actual don’t seem to be so. The Hindu Manudharma actually says each Dalits, the most vulnerable community forms almost 1/3rd of the District’s population. Though in majority The term ‘Dalit’ has its roots in Sanskrit (dal) which means broken, cracked, trodden down, crouched or destroyed. |

The passive and active interference or coercion in the educational, socio- cultural, political and economical facets has sensitized the target group.
