Children are considered to be one’s invaluable treasure. But some use children to earn more treasure. This is where Child labour begins. Since Kanchipuram district has lot of small scale industries, has nearly 14% of the children as child labourers. A Human Rights Study on child labour in Kanchipuram District says that around 15,000 children are employed in the silk industries in Kanchipuram town alone.

CRDS felt the need of abolition of child labour and is keen in educating these children. As a milestone in this action 41 evening study centres have been established in 41 villages. Each centre is employed with a Teacher who takes care of these children in a unique manner. Nearly 1623 children are the inmates of these centres.

Economic condition is the main factor that affects child education. Scholarships, Books, Uniforms and Bags are provided for school goers. Educational tours for these children are organized for these children to cheer them up. To promote their skills in extra curricular activities such as singing, essay writing, games and sports various competitions are being held.

Vacations camps were organized for these children. Special classes on English, Personality development etc are conducted.
